Though there is an extensive literature on polyvictmization, virtually all of it is concerned with the effect of childhood trauma and victimization on currently distressed children and adolescents. To date, no large study has looked at geographic or settlement type variations in the polyvictimization of adult women in the U.S. Using National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) data, the authors examine whether such differences do, in fact, exist. The Implications for further empirical and theoretical work are also addressed.
