Existing literature on correctional officer stress and its impact on turnover is both outdated and has largely focused on correctional officers in Western countries. Consequently, this study aims to examine the effects of various stress factors on turnover intention among correctional officers in India. A survey assessing stress, trauma, and work environment was administered to correctional staff from two correctional facilities located in state of Haryana, India. This study offers a unique insight into experiences of correctional officers in an Eastern country. In contextualizing the findings against the backdrop of what has been studied in North America, this study provides an opportunity for researchers to better understand what is shared and unique across different prison contexts in different regions of the world. Information gleaned from these surveys can be used to inform and improve conditions for those working in correctional institutions internationally.
