Sociogenomics is an emerging area of study that seeks to enrich our understanding of novel discoveries in genetics research by placing sociological theory front-and-center. How that process unfolds can, at first blush, seem like a complicated orchestra of modern computing power and advanced statistical techniques. But, underneath it all, are a set of principles and assumptions that are both logical and intuitive. We believe, therefore, that sociogenomics is an area of study that is poised to make an impact in criminology. The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the audience to sociogenomics by offering a short, and intuitive, discussion of the logic, process, and assumptions that go into producing sociogenomics research.
