The use of 311 systems has been documented as way to reduce the non-emergency calls for service to the police. However, little is known about the impact it has on reducing crime in areas where it is used frequently. This study compared the use of 311 in two similar districts within one city. The frequency of calls to 311, the time to resolution of the issue, the level of priority for the issue, and overall crime in both districts are examined. Additionally, the types of calls to 311 are analyzed. Results are detailed with implications for use in other districts and cities. Recommendations are also presented.
