The Violence Against Women Act of 1994 (VAWA) mandated a number of research efforts that stimulated a dramatic enhancement to violence against women research supported by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). This presentation will provide an overview of the key components in the history and development of Violence Against Women research, as mandated by the VAWA. This includes a description of past work, including leadership, planning, and collaboration, as well as the management of significant research issues related to measurement, evaluation rigor, and gender symmetry.
