Design and Interim Findings from the PSN Evaluation Case Study Component

Abstract

The case study component of the PSN evaluation provides an in-depth assessment of the implementation of the enhanced PSN model in 10 US Attorney districts, along with a more granular examination of its impact in each “target enforcement area” in which PSN efforts were focused. From among the 94 US Attorney districts, 10 districts that represent a strong test of the PSN model and that collectively offer geographic diversity were selected as case study sites through a systematic selection process. In each case study site, in-depth implementation data are being collected through monthly check-ins, observations of PSN task force meetings, and site visits (done remotely as needed). Incident-level, geocoded crime data are being obtained from local law enforcement jurisdictions. Synthetic control comparison areas are being identified and constructed for each PSN target enforcement area.
This presentation will describe the case study design and our approach to resolving key design challenges, including identifying comparison areas. It will also present interim implementation findings from the first round of (virtual) site visits to the case study sites.
