This paper examines cohort differentiation in exposure to violence and key aspects of criminality from adolescence to mid-adulthood. We leverage the multicohort design of the Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods and its additions (PHDCN+) to identify age-period interactions in exposure to violence and crime. We also examine how the links between early exposure to violence and adult outcomes vary by cohort. A particular focus is given to the comparison of exposure to violence during early adolescence (age ~15) for cohorts entering this developmental stage at different periods in history that vary substantially in regard to crime and incarceration rates.
