A growing body of empirical literature reveals evidence of differential police treatment of members of minority groups. Yet there is limited comprehensive knowledge regarding how scholars understand and investigate the phenomenon of racialized policing. Our scoping review helps fill this gap by analyzing and synthesizing 136 research articles to address three research questions: 1) How does existing research conceptualize racialized policing? 2) What common themes emerge from research on racialized policing? 3) What solutions to racialized policing are offered in existing empirical literature? We conclude by discussing the implications of the current state of empirical knowledge. We also suggest research avenues to support empirically-grounded policy and practice solutions to racialized policing.
