Over the past several years, computer-facilitated crimes have continued to grow in number and complexity. As a result, there has been an increase in research surrounding cybercrime as well as interest from new research and methodological perspectives. While this emerging fervor for cybercrime is beneficial for the field, researchers have increasingly noted challenges in data collection. The current presentation will discuss such challenge in research cybercrimes that are presented in the literature, such as ethical considerations and problems with missing data. Through this roundtable, researchers will also discuss previous experiences, challenges, and new methodological approaches. Topics of interest of the panelists include challenges in collecting and analyzing longitudinal data, challenges with secondary data collected through governmental agencies, methodological approaches to create larger datasets from open-source information, analysis of observed and unobserved data, and methodological concerns of approximating cyber crime data.
