Exploring the Relationship Between School Status and Juvenile Court Outcomes

Abstract

Recently, greater attention is directed at the school-to-prison pipeline, the mechanism by which youth are being funneled from the school system into the justice system. In order to further understand the nuances of this system, this study examines the impact of school status on youth court outcomes using six years (2010-2015) of juvenile court data from a large southeastern state. Specifically, using multi-level modeling, this study explores whether there is variation in the relationship at the neighborhood level.
