Recent research by Wolff and colleagues (2020, in Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency) indicates that belief in the code of the street is associated with an earlier anticipated death among adolescent offenders. The current study has two objectives. First, it seeks to evaluate whether the street code-fatalism relationship can be replicated among adult offenders. Second, it seeks to examine the robustness of this relationship. Specifically, it tests whether this relationship is invariant across sociodemographic characteristics. To do so, this study uses data collected from a sizable sample of individuals incarcerated in a large county jail located in the United States. Implications for theory and potential intervention efforts will be discussed.
