Patterns of Poly-Victimization Exposure Across Racial and Ethnic Populations in the U.S.: Findings from The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS)

Thu, Nov 17, 5:00 to 6:20pm, M302, Marquis Level

Abstract

Limited quantitative research exists on multiple and co-occurring forms of interpersonal violence exposure among adults in the general population, including potential racial and ethnic disparities across victimization experiences. Using data from the 2015 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey data, this aims of this study were to: (1) Describe the experiences of poly-victimization exposure including intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and stalking, and sub-types (e.g., physical violence, psychological aggression, sexual coercion) in a nationally representative sample of male and female adults; and (2) Identify potential disparities in poly-victimization exposure based on race and ethnicity. Implications for law enforcement responses to domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking cases and how experiences of poly-victimization may influence the investigation and prosecution of cases will be discussed.
