Understanding the conflicting nature of human rights and AI in search of practical implications

Thu, Nov 17, 6:30 to 8:00pm, Atrium Ballroom, Atrium Level

Abstract

In 2015, one of the UN SDG goals was established to make human rights guidance available for Artificial Intelligence. To ensure that the use of AI does not infringe human rights, especially in terms of algorithms, the United Nations has set four pillars in UNESCO’s work to include human rights implications of artificial intelligence in the justice system (UNESCO). As the industry rapidly transforms along with the role of AI, the correlation between practical use of AI and human rights issues such as invasion of privacy rise as a crucial matter. With the lack of a judicial system that thoroughly tackles the wide-ranging problems, alternative research suggests that in order to resolve these issues, the world must first link themselves with the companies responsible for causing human rights issues over those connected with the impact (Essex University). Although AI can help assist and improve the quality of our life, it is also essential to understand the many drawbacks and problems that come with it. This research will analyze the benefits and outline how AI can invade our human rights so that we can develop a plan to outweigh the cons in the future.
