Parolees who are unemployed and employed in full time positions will be compared to identify recidivism rates. The recidivism rates for parolees is very high after being released for a few years from prison. We will be utilizing a mixed-methods approach that uses both qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data will consist of interviews from parolees and individuals employed in law enforcement. The quantitative data will consist of recidivism rate of parolees who are unemployed vs parolees who are not employed. The recidivism rate for parolees is approximately 70%. Understanding what factors can contribute most in mitigating this number is crucial to implementing programs to assist this disadvantaged community. We hypothesize that employment will have a positive correlation on reducing recidivism.
