Research on economic abuse has been primarily conducted among women who have sought help from domestic violence agencies. However, women who hold different social identities may vary in their rates of seeking services, their experiences of economic abuse victimization, and their perceptions of viable responses to economic abuse. Additionally, social expectations of motherhood may disadvantage women economically and compel them to endure economic abuse. This research examines the impact of socioeconomic factors on the experiences of economic abuse among women who have minor dependents. Specifically, I will examine the relationship between socioeconomic factors and the tactics of economic experienced by participants within their heterosexual relationships. Further, I will explore the influence of socioeconomic factors on participants’ perceptions of viable responses to experiences of economic abuse.
