Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have been linked to negative mental health symptoms, and it significantly affects personality within individuals. ACEs have been linked to increased levels of neuroticism and to lower scores in agreeableness and conscientiousness. These patterns within personalities tend to be linked to lower quality of life, mental health issues, and increased stress. Though it has been noted that intervention such as pharmaceuticals and therapies have been helpful in treating certain disorders, these elements in relation to personality change of those with ACEs have not been heavily discussed in previous research. It is important to understand whether or not these resources are helpful in reducing the negative personality traits seen in individuals with ACEs, and research must be done to help further answer this question. This study utilizes a sample of currently enrolled college students at a rural Southeastern university in the US.
