The purpose of this document is to examine the dimensions of intimate partner violence (IPV) among university students in the state of North Carolina. IPV is defined as violence committed by a current or former boyfriend or girlfriend, spouse, or ex-spouse. According to the Center of Disease Control about 1 in 4 women and 1in 10 men have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime and reported some form of IPV-related impact. Intimate partner violence is an ongoing problematic issue that requires strict policies to protect its victims and deter offenders from re-offending. Currently 43% of women in North Carolina are victims of domestic violence.
