Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel

Abstract/Description

This panel engages with the multidimensional consequences of incarceration and criminal justice system contact for families and children. Using a variety of methodological approaches and data sources, the papers cover four topics: 1) how experiencing paternal incarceration impacts the way children think about their futures; 2) the ways in which forcible separation of prisoners’ households alters family life; 3) the ramifications of anticipatory stress during jail incarceration for individuals and their families; and 4) the prevalence of parental rights termination following parental incarceration.
