Developing Faculty Mentorship Practices for Undergraduate Students

Wed, Nov 15, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Salon D, 5th Floor

Abstract

Mentoring undergraduate students in criminal justice and criminology is a common experience for faculty. While faculty routinely engage in providing mentorship and coaching about careers after graduation, there remains opportunity to 1) develop this practice in ways that create meaningful space for faculty to guide conversations with students about career aspirations, 2) create resources for faculty to help students think more deeply about their career options, and 3) expand knowledge about the array of careers paths in practitioner, academic, and alt-ac spaces. This presentation will consider each of these elements pertaining faculty mentorship and attendees will leave with greater knowledge and resources related to emerging issues.
