Improving the Responsivity of Hospital-based Violence Intervention Programs (HVIPs) to Key Client Needs: Evidence From Community Partners Serving Victims of Violence

Thu, Nov 16, 9:30 to 10:50am, Franklin Hall 11, 4th Floor

Abstract

Hospital-led violence intervention programs (HVIPs) have tremendous potential in reducing community violence and are poised to grow with significant state and federal investments. Hackensack Meridian Health's Project HEAL is an HVIP in New Jersey that uses a coordinated community response (CCR; Ranjan & Dmello, 2022) involving all major community stakeholders at the local and county-level to connect victims of violence with continuing care, for long-term improvements in community health. Project HEAL is currently engaged in a formative process evaluation exercise to align its program design and service delivery to best serve the needs of its clients. This presentation will highlight preliminary findings on key HVIP parameters and outcomes (Monopoli et al., 2021) assessed by community-based partners and service providers to be the most salient and impactful. We will also demonstrate how external feedback from vital community stakeholders can be used to develop a classification system of HVIP service parameters and outcome variables that can be utilized to refine program delivery, to better serve the local community.
