Childhood maltreatment has long-term effects on later life outcomes, including substance use and mental health. Using data from one adult drug court, the current study examined the prevalence of childhood maltreatment histories among participants and the differences between those with maltreatment histories and their counterparts. Results show that 47% of participants had "high" levels of childhood maltreatment. Further, most participants had a history of mental health problems (70%). These findings indicate the need to consider childhood maltreatment and its impact on mental health and substance abuse among drug court populations.
