Survivors of trauma often face challenges with emotional expression and encounter barriers to employment opportunities upon reintegrating into the community. To address these issues, this lightning talk presents an intervention focused on three key components, informed by theoretical frameworks:
I. Facilitating access to a future sense of self:
Through immersive simulations, participants are guided to envision and access their future selves, promoting resilience and motivation for personal growth. Drawing on Positive Selves Theory, we emphasize the importance of positive future narratives in facilitating healing and empowerment.
II. Fostering collective efficacy through artifact creation:
Participants engage in the active creation of artifacts that represent their aspirations and strengths. By sharing these artifacts in group settings, they experience collective empowerment and support in their journey towards healing and reintegration. Grounded in Collective Efficacy theory, this component highlights the role of group dynamics in building confidence and resilience.
III. Enhancing self-efficacy and improving employment outcomes:
By cultivating a sense of agency and confidence, participants are better equipped to navigate challenges, leading to improved employment prospects and overall well-being. Informed by the Design Justice Framework (Costanza-Chock, 2019), this component ensures that the intervention promotes inclusivity and equity, addressing systemic barriers to employment.
