Criminological Activist Civil Rights Work: Notes from the Field

Wed, Nov 13, 12:30 to 1:50pm, Sierra K - 5th Level

Abstract

Criminologists sometimes develop a skill-set over the course of their careers that lends itself well to doing activist civil rights work. This paper explores various theoretical and practical dimensions of engaging in expert-witness and consulting work (both pro-bono and compensated). This type of activist work has its rewards and risks professionally, particularly in high-profile cases such as the Breonna Taylor killing and George Floyd protests.
