Background: Proponents of cannabis policy reform argue that decriminalizing cannabis will enhance the efficacy, productivity, and resource allocation for police departments. However, there is little research that explores the validity of this argument. Methods: Using data from Dallas Police Department from 2014-2022 and an interrupted-time series analysis, this study examines the impact of three cannabis decriminalization policies on police productivity. Results: Processing times increased following the enactment of each policy. Implications: This study can inform law enforcement practices seeking to implement citation-based policies, offering insight into how police departments can effectively design the procedures to ensure they are effective and efficient.
