Women and Crime: Podcasting with a Purpose

Thu, Nov 14, 3:30 to 4:50pm, Nob Hill A - Lower B2 Level

Abstract

With over half a million downloads per month, this podcast entered the true crime space not as form of entertainment, but as vehicle for education hosted by two criminologists. The goal of this podcast is to tell stories that focus on women who were the victim of a crime or the offender (often these are one in the same). In addition, the podcast highlights women who are leaders in the field or have contributed to important changes in the criminal legal system. What sets this podcast apart from others is the focus on learning and action. Every episode concludes with a discussion on criminological theory and an examination of relevant processes and policies. Lastly, listeners are encouraged to learn more about the topic at hand or get involved in activism and advocacy.
