Abstract

Law enforcement agencies are grappling with a myriad of challenges, from high rates of violent crime to calls for reform and staffing shortages. Amidst these obstacles, agencies must navigate the landscape of crime reduction and public safety strategies by identifying and integrating best practices. One such strategy involves the establishment of crime analysis centers, which can manifest in various forms with diverse objectives.

This presentation will unveil findings from a comprehensive scoping review that delves into research on fusion centers, crime gun intelligence centers, real-time crime centers, and crime information centers. Our examination encompasses definitions, operational methodologies, and the impact of these centers on law enforcement practices and community safety.

In our discussion, we will explore the implications for policy and practice associated with these centers, shedding light on their effectiveness and potential areas for improvement. Moreover, we will highlight avenues for future research aimed at enhancing the understanding and efficacy of crime analysis centers in contemporary law enforcement operations.
