Criminology Then and Now: Evolution of an Academic Discipline

Abstract

Criminology is a young discipline but has heavily evolved along multiple dimensions. Paralleling the many changes in criminological perspectives have been broad shifts within the larger academic community. The goal here will be to trace changes both within the discipline and across university environments over the past 50 years. Both positive shifts and challenges to the status of criminology will be highlighted.
