Empirical Evaluation on Subway Safety Initiative

Abstract

Subway system suffers from various type of crime and misdemeanor on a daily basis. One of the largest subway systems in the U.S. recently carried out a safety initiative including more presence of police officers. Weekly crime rates at four select stations over the course of three years were examined for their trends and impact of safety initiative, while controlling COVID effect. Findings suggest that some stations experienced a deterrent effect.
