Mass incarceration in the United States has raised concerns about the impacts of incarceration on families. Experiencing the incarceration of a family member, including a partner, is linked to poor health outcomes, especially for women. This study uses a stress process lens to assess the theorized mechanisms that link partner incarceration to suboptimal health. We analyze self-reported mental and physical health among women with incarcerated partners over 18 months.
