Gentrification has been a subject of significant debate and concern. While some argue that it contributes to reduced crime rates, others contend that it exacerbates social disparities and crime hot spots. To test this, we modeled the impact of gentrification on harm-weighted crime dynamics. Weighting crime by its relative harm accounts for both frequency and severity of incidents in different neighborhoods. We employed a longitudinal approach, utilizing crime incident data, a harm-weighting scale, and gentrification change scores. Trajectory analysis was then used to model the evolving crime patterns within gentrifying and non-gentrifying areas over time.
