Local Implementation of PSN

Wed, Nov 13, 8:00 to 9:20am, Salon 11 - Lower B2 Level

Abstract

PSN is a multi-faceted program model that encourages evidence-based and data-driven approaches within the key design elements of community engagement, violence prevention and intervention, focused and strategic enforcement, and accountability. This presentation describes local implementation of PSN across the Federal districts, using data from a 2024 web-based survey of PSN Coordinators. The survey collected Coordinator input on topics of interest to DOJ, to help inform decisions such as how prescriptive DOJ should be regarding different aspects of PSN implementation. We present findings on the processes used for allocating funding and determining the local crime problem to be addressed; the role of the PSN Coordinator and other key staff within the U.S. Attorney’s Offices (USAOs); the role of the research partner; the extent to which PSN activities are coordinated with other violence prevention programs; and training and technical assistance utilization and needs across districts. We also present data from Coordinators’ perspective on how important the individual PSN design elements are to their strategic approach and how satisfied they are with progress implementing them.
