"They Outed Me on the Internet!": Experiences of Transgender Victims of Cybercrime

Abstract

This presentation will report on the experiences of transgender victims who have experienced cybervictimization that includes harassment, cyberstalking, image based sexual abuse, identity theft and sextortion. Results from qualitative interviews will be presented and suggestions for protecting victims will be discussed. The need for the better understanding of transgender victims will be highlighted as all victims in this study reported issues with interactions and seeking help within the criminal legal system and victim service providers.
