The proliferation of the internet and changing lifestyle have led to a flourishing of online dating sites and applications, attracting an increasing number of individuals seeking to establish new relationships. Online dating platforms have revolutionized the way people seek romantic relationships. However, they also expose users to more opportunities for cyber sexual harassment. While previous research has explored the prevalence of digital harassment and responses from industry and policymaker, there is a lack of empirical studies on the victimization experienced in this context. To bridge this gap, this study aims to understand the nuances of victimization experiences in Chinese online dating. Utilizing interview data and online ethnography, we identified the typologies of sexual harassment within the context of online dating. We also examine the response tactics by the victims as actors with online social capital. Our findings contribute to the understanding of sexual harassment in the digital age and the risks associated with online dating.
