Client-Centered Reentry: Perspectives on a Web-Based Reentry Approach

Wed, Nov 13, 3:30 to 4:50pm, Pacific A - 4th Level

Abstract

New approaches to reentry planning that incorporate innovative technologies and a more client-driven approach are receiving growing attention by correctional agencies and service providers. However, little is known about their acceptability to clients and service providers who are the target audience for such tools. In this presentation, we will summarize stakeholder perceptions of the utility of the Pokket web-based reentry planning tool, which is intended to enhance reentry programming and reduce recidivism by enabling the sharing of client-level data across reentry stakeholders and empowering individuals to take ownership over their reentry. The findings are based on semi-structured interviews conducted with approximately 175 clients and staff across 10 NC DAC correctional facilities. Findings will highlight similarities and differences by stakeholder role, including currently incarcerated people, recently released people, facility-based case managers and programming staff, and community-based service providers. We will also discuss lessons learned from this tool’s statewide deployment and considerations for effectively implementing this reentry-based technology.
