The proliferation of online drug markets has become a significant concern, with illicit drug trade flourishing on various digital platforms. One prominent venues for such activities is the surface web, where encrypted communications enable the sale and distribution of narcotics. Given the global nature of online drug markets, understanding the dynamics and characteristics of these platforms is crucial for policymakers and law enforcement agencies. In this study, we investigate the operations of 94 online drug markets, comparing the behaviour and engagement patterns of members with channels from the United States. Our analysis focuses on potential notable differences in the volume and nature of drug listings, as well as user interactions within these markets. Differences and similarities between these online and offline behaviour towards substance popularity, distinct patterns of product offerings and transnational/state behaviours are investigated. These findings shed light on the evolving landscape of online drug markets and underscore the importance of international collaboration in addressing this complex issue.
