Fri, Nov 15, 9:30 to 10:50am, Pacific J - 4th Level

Abstract

This study examines the interplay between Rational Choice Theory and the activities of "Yahoo Boys" in cybercrime victimization, specifically focusing on the use of deepfake technologies and generative AI. With the advent of sophisticated technology, cybercriminals now possess advanced tools to perpetrate fraudulent activities, challenging conventional criminological understandings. Employing Rational Choice Theory as a conceptual framework, this research aims to highlight the decision-making processes and behavioral patterns of individuals engaged in cyber fraud through qualitative analysis of case studies and online forums and examines how cybercriminals strategically exploit deepfakes and generative AI to deceive and defraud their targets. The study unravels the rational calculations and situational factors that influence their actions to provide insights into the dynamics of cybercriminal behavior and inform strategies for prevention and intervention in the age of the AI revolution.
