This study seeks to expand upon extant literature which suggests that deviant online behavior is significantly associated with deviant offline behavior by examining similarities and differences in perceptions of what behaviors are acceptable and unacceptable in the solicitation of nude images compared to in-person sexual exchanges. The Sexual Deception Scale (SDS) is a validated measure which we modified and amended for our purposes to create and disseminate two distinct surveys. Respondents were randomly assigned to one of two survey conditions, with one condition being the modified traditional SDS intended to capture perceptions of offline sexual strategies and the other condition being the amended SDS intended to capture perceptions of online sexual strategies specific to the solicitation of nude images. Conclusions are drawn regarding similarities and differences between perceived acceptability of deceptive sexual strategies in online and offline spaces. Importantly, insights are gained into how deception is differentially utilized in contrasting environmental contexts.
