Funded by the National Science Foundation, the Targeted Infusion Project is designed to expose students to the social relevance and trustworthiness of artificial intelligence (AI). Students in the following disciplines were involved in the study: Computer Science, Forensic Science, and Criminal Justice. Students completed a Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) style activity to engage with a decision tree model, a popular AI algorithm. This presentation focuses on preliminary findings and lessons learned from this cross-disciplinary study. The qualitative analysis of students’ feedback highlights the advantages and disadvantages of this approach to exposing students to AI, its applications, and the issues related to the trustworthiness of AI.
