Thu, Nov 14, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Pacific H - 4th Level

Abstract

Conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), the 2020 National Survey of Prosecutors (NSP) is latest in a series of data collections that examines the roles and functions of state court prosecutors’ offices. The 2020 NSP surveyed 750 of the nation’s approximately 2,350 offices that tried felony cases in state courts of general jurisdiction. Information pertaining to state prosecutor offices’ staffing, expenditures, felony case outcomes, office policies, and victim assistance practices were collected. Emerging topics such as hate crimes, human trafficking, diversion programs and problem-solving courts were also examined. This presentation will review the survey methodology, challenges, and major findings.
