Abstract

Professional standards and empirical evidence agree: defense should begin on the first day after a person is arrested. This presentation will describe the Deason Center's Day One Project, laying out policy guidance for any jurisdiction seeking to make sure every criminal defendant's rights are guaranteed from the very start of their criminal case.
