The following paper will examine terrorist victimization in the Arab world through the theoretical framework of Southern criminology. A Southern approach considers the long-term impact of authoritarianism, neo-colonialism, and the geopolitical discourse around the "war on terror." These historical, economic, and socio-political components are vital contextual factors to terrorism victimization in the Arab world and validate the value of a Southern criminological interpretive lens. The paper will argue that along with the victimization of the people by terrorist organizations; repressive governments and the geopolitical context of the war on terror have also victimized the region’s citizens.
