Abstract

In policing, digital transformation projects face multifaceted challenges: retrofitting new technology onto outdated infrastructure, insufficient backing from IT professionals, and the urgency of training a round-the-clock workforce. To surmount these hurdles, proactive leadership and strategic planning are paramount. By cultivating a culture of adaptability and investing in comprehensive training initiatives, departments can ensure the swift adoption of new tools and methodologies. IDEA Analytics and Amarillo (TX) Police (APD) will join the SPI Thematic Panel to share their approaches to technology implementation that have resulted in faster response times, enhanced incident awareness for officer safety, and proactive measures for public safety. Discussants will share the evaluation of management practices of meticulous planning and steadfast leadership approaches to overcome the complexities of digital transformation, leveraging technology to work smarter and safeguard communities effectively. During the session, discussants will examine the policy implications and vital considerations researchers and policymakers must address when implementing new technology within a department.
