Network, Social, and Educational Change Among NJ-STEP Students

Abstract

This panel will present preliminary findings on the experiences of NJ-STEP participants who transition from in-prison programs to on-campus students. The research presented employs a mixed methods analysis using social networks, administrative data, surveys, and intensive interviews to better understand the reentry to college campus process, identifying areas of strength and opportunities for change. The study is especially focused on how formerly incarcerated students do (or do not) become embedded within campus communities through engagement with peers, faculty, staff, and campus organizations.
