Thu, Nov 14, 3:30 to 4:50pm, Willow - B2 Level

Abstract

Work in the sex industry is often viewed as an unsafe environment for performers, where clubs and managers are willing to disregard safety and laws for a fast buck. Using 29 in-depth interview this paper examines support in the workplace for women in the sex industry. Respondents noted that the support they received from managers and club staff created a safe environment where felt that they had the agency to say no to customer request. Further, the women noted that a safe working environment was important for making money for both club and the women working there.
