In this presentation I report on the conditions of victimisation among LGBTQI+ people with a focus on those living in rural areas of Poland and Sweden. These countries offer contrasting case studies within Europe regarding LGBTQI+ rights, yet share a similar regional context. We examine the range of victimization from private to public spheres and the varying attitudes towards LGBTQI+ communities in both rural and urban settings. We conclude by comparing the differences between these nations and the uniqueness of rural areas. We highlight the diverse responses to discrimination and violence against LGBTQI+ people in these areas, including the impactful role of organizations advocating for inclusive policies and the creation of safe spaces.
