The extent to which a female commits a violent offense leading to incarceration can significantly impact her ability to navigate the prison environment within the system. Despite its importance, the study of incarcerated females and their involvement in prison misconduct remains an understudied area within criminology. Particularly, the influence of their commitment offense on their adjustment to prison life has received little attention. While previous research has explored factors associated with prison misconduct, there is a gap in understanding how females incarcerated for violent offenses adapt to their incarceration experience. This study aims to fill this void by analyzing the correlates linked to prison misconduct among females incarcerated for a violent offense against a family member, stranger, or acquaintance.
