The rehabilitation of individuals convicted of sexual offenses is critical to crime prevention efforts. Indeed, many, if not all, states offer treatment for individuals who are incarcerated for illegal sexual behavior. We evaluate two correctional-based programs—the Inpatient Healthy Lives Program (iHELP) and the Outpatient Healthy Lives Program (oHELP). These programs apply cognitive behavioral therapy techniques within the risk, need, and responsivity framework to change offenders' thinking patterns and behaviors. Specifically, we examine the influence of these programs on prison misconduct and recidivism outcomes in a Midwestern state. Overall, this evaluation sheds light on the benefits of sex offender programming and provides guidance regarding future policy and practice.
