Exploring the White Supremacy to Anti-immigrant Violence Pathway

Abstract

How do manifestations of white supremacy lead to anti-immigrant perceptions and violence toward immigrants of color? The “white supremacy to anti-immigrant violence pathway” was identified and developed to investigate how white supremacy has become entangled in our institutions and society, and to show how exclusion and policing of immigrants of color work to uphold the continued rule of white supremacy in our society. By visualizing fatal encounters of migrants using geographic information system mapping (ArcGIS) and further contextualizing the situation by critical analysis of incidents and federal immigration laws, I illustrate how white supremacy reinforces violence from the macro level to the individual level while focusing on macro-level laws and agencies, and the influence on enforcement of these laws which result in individual incidents.
