The current study investigates the effects of civil gang injunctions (CGI) on the spatial distributions of gang violence in Los Angeles, exploring the situational factors that influence the effectiveness of CGI. The analyses of 993 gang-related violent crimes in LA revealed significant changes in the spatial distribution of gang violence after the implementation of CGI. In specific, while violent crimes committed by gangs under CGI violence increased after the implementation of CGI, those occurred in their own territories decreased and those occurred in the vicinity of their territories increased. Having identified the significant displacement of gang violence, this study further explores whether characteristics of enjoyed gangs and socio-economic characteristics of the areas under CGI (i.e., safety zones) influence the displacement effect of CGI.
