Virtual reality holds promise for criminology but opportunity costs can be prohibiting for individual researchers. Virtual environments take time to develop, and require resources and specific expertise that may be out of reach. But virtual environments can also be shared between researchers and used for replication purposes or, with certain adaptations, be repurposed to address new research questions. In this talk I discuss the possibilities and obstacles involved when sharing virtual environment and present two virtual environments that were developed for the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law and that are made available to the research community.
